I heard a political commercial today saying "Help keep Americans employed -- vote for SOPA." Their argument was that online piracy is taking away jobs from Americans. Even if this were to be the case (and I am not sure that it is, although I certainly do not support piracy), I can't imagine that the people paying for this ad have begun to explore the potential collateral damage that SOPA and PIPA might cause the United States. It will become much less attractive to host data and websites in the United States, and potentially even to do business in the US when any portion of business is done online.
